The handling of baggage in Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has long been a headache to many travelers. Some experience losing the contents of their baggage and many lose their baggage entirely and never getting answers from the proper authorities of the airport. There are new CCTV cameras installed by the baggage area which will show every detail of the baggage being handled. Each CCTV camera is priced at PHp1M. Ed Monreal, General Manager of Manila International Airport says that this initiative is to address the claims of passengers that their baggage are being tampered, mistreated and gets lost. He says that this will show that NAIA employees will and must handle baggage properly.

On the other side of the story, employees of the agency are now in protest against the lack of performance bonus. They are still working but wear red ribbon on their arm to show their protest. The management says that despite this protest, the employees must continue with their work. The placing of CCTV cameras got mixed reactions from passengers. Some are thankful for it while some are still wary about the goings on with their baggage.

In the coming days, passengers and the public will see if this initiative will become fruitful because everyone is so tired of all the negativities in the airport. Nobody wants their luggage gone. Often times, they couldn’t get it back and their baggage are full of expensive things that’s why they feel bad about it. Through this CCTV camera installation in NAIA, passengers and the public might regain trust in the airport authorities and employees again. This is a way to show that the NAIA can be reliable and decent again. What are you thought about the CCTV camera installation in NAIA baggage area?
